Marathon Electrical Contractors Prepares for Its Largest Apprenticeship Year Yet
With growing demand for skilled electricians, Marathon is expanding its Registered Apprenticeship Program, increasing enrollment, launching two Blitz cohorts, and securing additional training space to support the next generation of electrical professionals.
As demand for skilled electricians continues to grow across the region, Marathon Electrical Contractors is preparing for one of the largest years in the history of its Registered Apprenticeship Program.
What began as a focused effort to create structured career pathways into the electrical trade has steadily grown into a program that now supports more than one hundred apprentices each year. Registered with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and built around the nationally recognized NCCER curriculum, Marathon’s apprenticeship program blends classroom instruction with hands-on jobsite experience, equipping apprentices with the knowledge and skills needed to build long-term careers in the electrical industry.
In a typical year, the program runs between 105 and 110 apprentices across all levels of training. This year, however, Marathon expects that number to grow to nearly 140 total apprentices, including approximately 60 new students entering the program.
The increase reflects both the rising demand for skilled trades professionals and the growing interest from individuals looking for meaningful, hands-on career opportunities.
To support this expansion, Marathon has secured additional classroom space through a leased facility at Academy of Craft Training in Birmingham. The leased space will allow the company to responsibly grow in number while maintaining the level of instruction, structure, and access to instructors that apprentices rely on throughout their training.
Part of this growth includes the launch of two “Blitz” cohorts, an accelerated training model designed to introduce new apprentices to the foundational elements of electrical work through focused, intensive instruction. These cohorts provide incoming students with a strong starting point while helping Marathon continue to meet the workforce needs of the industry.
For Marathon Electrical Contractors, the expansion represents more than increased enrollment numbers. It reflects a continued investment in people, in opportunity, and in the future of the skilled trades. By opening the door to more apprentices each year, the company remains committed to developing the next generation of electricians and strengthening the workforce that powers the communities it serves.
